Until now it felt a little small in my hand, the battery grip extends the size of the lateral grip, and adds a new one for vertical shooting. Besides, it really improves the handling when I use the 75-300, I don't feel like the camera is tipping over any more. It's really great, and I'm excited ;) There are a few buttons on the BG-E3 which allow easy handling while vertical shooting, another shutter button, AE/FE lock, AF point selector, Aperture value/Exposure compensation, main dial, etc. Of course it features a tripod mount, central to the lens, so it's like it wasn't there .. Anyways, it makes the camera a bit heavier, but taking 2 batteries and extending the number of pictures to take (to up to 1200) makes it worth imho.
